License installation with the Anaconda Navigator license manager
================================================================

The graphical Anaconda Navigator license manager allows you to add, remove, and
view details of licensed packages.

Before you start
----------------

* You should have received your license from your sales representative.
* You should have installed Anaconda Navigator and conda. Both are included in Anaconda.
* Optionally your product(s) or a free trial may already be installed.
* Save the license file to your Downloads folder (or directory). Note the exact filename now to save a few steps.
* If you need any help, contact your sales rep or priority support.

Installing your license
-----------------------

1. Open :doc:`Anaconda Navigator <navigator>` and click "Help" > "License manager".

.. image:: /img/license-manager.png

2. Click "Add license" and select the license file.

3. After adding the license click "Close" to close the license manager. You may
close Anaconda Navigator or continue to use it.

4. This last step updates conda, installs and tests the licensed products you installed.

NOTE: If you previously installed a 30-day trial, you may choose to skip
this step, but running it again is harmless.

In your Command Prompt or terminal window run::

      conda update conda
      conda install your_package_name

NOTE: Replace "your_package_name" with the actual name of your package or
product, such as "accelerate". Follow the full installation instructions for
   the actual product.

Run your new packages or products:

Start Python (If you have multiple versions of Python on your computer, check
to be sure the startup message says that it is Anaconda Python)::

      python

Import your newly licensed packages or products::

      import your_package_name

Your license is now installed. If you have any questions or problems, please
click the "Got a problem with your license?" link, contact
your `sales rep <mailto:sales@continuum.io>`_ or contact
   `priority support <https://support.continuum.io/>`_ for assistance.

About Anaconda licenses
-----------------------

Licenses for all Anaconda user products are stored in the home folder in a hidden
subfolder named ``~/.continuum``. The license directory is hidden to help
protect your license files from accidental changes or deletion. We explain how
to manage hidden directories for your operating system below.

TIP: The conda command ``conda info --license`` shows you the location of your license files
and validates the licenses that are there.

Windows
-------

Hidden folders appear in Windows Explorer only if the "show hidden files and
folders" option is enabled. To bypass this issue, we use the Command Prompt
window, and if it has not been created yet we make one. Then we copy and paste
the license into the hidden license folder.

1. Open a Command Prompt window and look for the hidden folder. Click Start, in
the search box type "command" and select Command prompt from the list. To see
the files in your home folder, type "dir" and look for .continuum.

2. If you do not see a folder named .continuum, make a new one with ``mkdir .continuum``

3. Next, find the name of the license file. Use the "dir" command to show the
files in your Downloads folder (or wherever you saved the license
   file): ``dir Downloads``

4. Copy the license file into the license directory. Use the "copy" command:
   ``copy Downloads\license_bundle_1234.txt .continuum``

NOTE: Replace "license_bundle_1234.txt" with the actual name of your license file.

5. This last step updates conda, installs and tests the licensed products you installed.

NOTE: If you previously installed a 30-day trial, you may choose to skip
this step, but running it again is harmless.

In your Command Prompt window run::

      conda update conda
      conda install your_package_name

NOTE: Replace "your_package_name" with the actual name of your package or
product, such as "accelerate". Follow the full installation instructions for
   the actual product.

Run your new packages or products:

Start Python (If you have multiple versions of Python on your computer, check
to be sure the startup message says that it is Anaconda Python)::

      python

Import your newly licensed packages or products::

      import your_package_name

Your license is now installed in Windows. If you have any questions or
problems, please contact your `sales rep <mailto:sales@continuum.io>`_ or
   `priority support <https://support.continuum.io/>`_ for assistance.

macOS
-----

Finder easily locates the hidden licenses folder, and if the folder has not
been created yet we make one. Then we copy and paste the license into the
hidden folder.

1. Look for the hidden folder. In the bottom row of icons, click the Finder
icon, then from the top menu bar, select Go -> Go to folder. In the box that
appears, type ``~/.continuum`` and click the Go Button.

2. If the search results listing is empty, make a new hidden licenses folder by
selecting File -> New Folder and typing ``~/.continuum``.

3. Next, copy the license file. Go to your Downloads folder (or wherever you
saved the license file), highlight the license filename and copy the
file: from the top file bar select Edit -> Copy File.

4. Return to the licenses directory: from the top menu bar,
select Go -> Go to folder, in the box that appears type ``~/.continuum`` and
   click the Go Button.

5. Paste in the license file: In the file listing, double-click
the ~/.continuum folder to open the folder, then from the top menu bar,
   select Edit -> Paste Item.

6. This last step updates conda, installs and tests the licensed products you
   installed.

NOTE: If you previously installed a 30-day trial, you may choose to skip
this step, but running it again is harmless.

Open your iTerm terminal and run::

     conda update conda
     conda install your_package_name

NOTE: Replace "your_package_name" with the actual name of your package
or product, such as "accelerate". Follow the full installation instructions
   for the actual product.

Run your new packages or products:

Start Python (If you have multiple versions of Python on your computer,
check to be sure the startup message says that it is Anaconda Python)::

     python

Import your newly licensed packages or products::

     import your_package_name

Your license is now installed in macOS. If you have any questions or
problems, please contact your `sales rep <mailto:sales@continuum.io>`_ or
   `priority support <https://support.continuum.io/>`_ for assistance.

Linux
-----

We use the List-All command to display all directories including hidden ones,
and if a license directory has not been created yet we make one. Then we copy
the license into the hidden license directory.

1. Look for an existing hidden license directory. Open a terminal window. In
your home directory, use the "list all" command: ``ls -a`` Look in the list
for a licenses directory named ``.continuum``.

2. If there is no directory named ".continuum", make a new licenses
   directory: ``mkdir .continuum``

3. Next, find the name of the license file. Go to your Downloads folder (or
wherever you saved the license file): ``cd Downloads``. Find the license
filename with the list command ``ls`` or if the list is long use ``ls | more``.

4. Highlight and copy the filename: from the top file bar select Edit -> Copy.

5. Copy the license file to the hidden directory: type ``cp``, then
Edit -> Paste to paste in the license filename, type ``~/.continuum`` and
   click Enter: ``cp license_bundle_1234.txt ~/.continuum``

NOTE: Replace "license_bundle_1234.txt" with the actual name of your license file.

6. This last step checks to be sure you have the latest version of conda, then
installs and tests the licensed products you installed.

NOTE: If you previously installed a 30-day trial, you may choose to skip
this step, but running it again is harmless.

In your terminal window, update conda and install your purchased packages or products::

     conda update conda
     conda install your_package_name

NOTE: Replace "your_package_name" with the actual name of your package or
product, such as "accelerate". Follow the full installation instructions for
   the actual product.

Run your new packages or products:

Start Python (If you have multiple versions of Python on your computer,
check to be sure the startup message says that it is Anaconda Python)::

     python

Import your newly licensed packages or products::

     import your_package_name

Your license is now installed in Linux. If you have any questions or
problems, please contact your `sales rep <mailto:sales@continuum.io>`_ or
   `priority support <https://support.continuum.io/>`_ for assistance.
